Mister Rogers arrives with a bag of groceries. After shelling a peanut, he asks Picture Picture to share a film about the growing and gathering of peanuts. He goes to Bob Trow’s Workshop to see life-size cardboard pictures of himself and his neighbors that Bob has painted. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Reardon is dressed as an organ grinder and has a real monkey. At first, he is not recognized because of the mustache he is wearing. Back at the workshop, Mr. Trow has created a small cut-out of Ino A. Horse and shows a cut-out of himself dressed as a monkey. Mister Rogers makes peanut butter.
Mister Rogers has a box of moustaches. He tries some on. Mr. McFeely delivers some wigs that they try on. Later, Betty Aberlin comes by and tries some on. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, King Friday doesn’t recognize Lady Aberlin when she has on a wig. Prince Tuesday cries when he sees his father in a wig. The king commands Reardon to make up an opera. Betty Aberlin decides she wants to be a zookeeper in the opera. Back at the house, Betty Aberlin and Mister Rogers make plans for Ino A. Horse to be included in the opera. Mr. McFeely returns to retrieve the wigs. With him he has a live rabbit named Thumper.
Mister Rogers demonstrates a pitch pipe. Mr. McFeely brings Mister Rogers a mallard duck. Reardon arrives at the house. He shows pictures of himself as a child and in costumes for various opera roles. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Reardon is teaching Daniel his part as a duck in the opera. Chef Brockett shows his monkey costume for the opera. Lady Aberlin rehearses her part as a zookeeper. They try on their costumes and practice their singing. Back at the house, Reardon sings before Mr. McFeely returns with a film about monkeys that Mister Rogers plans to watch another time.
Mister Rogers arrives and shares a film about monkeys. Bob Trow stops by the house and gives Mister Rogers a banana. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, everyone is in costume for the opera. King Friday XIII wants to play the bass in the opera. The zookeeper takes care of the animals. The organ grinder feels he is a failure and returns his monkey to the zoo. He gives his organ to the monkey’s uncle and tours the zoo with the zookeeper. The monkey’s uncle converts the organ to a popcorn maker. The organ grinder regains his confidence and accepts the zookeeper’s invitation to remain at the zoo. Back at the house, Mister Rogers encourages viewers to be creative by making up their own operas.
Mister Rogers arrives with the seat for an exercise bicycle which is already set up in his front room. He demonstrates how to use the exercise machine and shows photos from yesterday’s opera. Mr. McFeely stops by on his bike, advertising Brockett’s Bakery. Mister Rogers goes to see Chef Brockett and tells how he pretended Chef Brockett was in an opera. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Reardon leaves. Henrietta Pussycat is crying because she wasn’t in the opera. She didn’t tell anyone what she wanted because she thought looking shy would convey the message. She stops being upset when she joins some others as they exercise. Back with Mister Rogers, he and Chef Brockett walk to Mister Rogers’ house. Chef Brockett asks Mister Rogers to slow down–he can’t walk fast since his operation. At the house, Chef Brockett enjoys a glass of water on the porch before returning to the bakery.
