Mister Rogers makes flying motions with his hands. He goes to see the Flying Karamazov Brothers. The group provides Mister Rogers with a set of scarves to help him learn to juggle. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Neighbor Aber hears a hammering sound and finds that X is trying to fix a his owl copy machine. Inside the tree, Neighbor Aber learns that X is planning to offer flying lessons and was making copies of his advertisements when the copier jammed. Neighbor Aber is able to remove a scarf from the inside of the copier allowing the copies to continue. Outside the tree, Neighbor Aber provides a copy of the flying flyer to Henrietta and Mayor Maggie. Mr. McFeely shows Mister Rogers a video of how people make macaroni.
Mister Rogers shows his TV neighbors a turkey feather and a poster with birds on it. They were lent to him by his friends at the museum. Mr. McFeely shows up with a wooden parrot toy from Haiti and a video about what birds see when they are flying. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Handyman Negri is talking to King Friday about X the Owl’s offer to teach flying lessons, but the king isn’t interested. Appearing high upon the castle, Prince Tuesday expresses his desire to fly. At the Museum-Go-Round, Lady Elaine Fairchilde shows off her new hat with a propeller and announces to Handyman Negri that she will also be teaching flying lessons. Moving on to the tree, Handyman Negri watches as Prince Tuesday receives his first flying lesson from X the Owl. Back at the house, Mister Rogers watches a video of magician David Copperfield performing a flying trick. Visiting Mr. Copperfield, he explains to Mister Rogers that illusions and magic tricks are not real.
Mister Rogers puts together a puzzle where the pieces are King Friday, Queen Sara, and Prince Tuesday. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Prince Tuesday is saddened by the fact that his flying lesson did not actually teach him to fly on his own. Lady Elaine Fairchilde recognizes the prince’s disappointment and gives him a “magic” propeller hat which she says will allow him to fly — but it’s only pretend. Putting on the hat, Prince Tuesday leaps from the castle garden and falls to the ground. With an injury to Prince Tuesday’s arm, Dr. Bill is called. Back at the house, Mister Rogers shares a picture book of musical instruments before he visits a nearby theater where the Uptown String Quartet is rehearsing.
Mister Rogers doesn’t put on his tennis shoes right away because he has a sleeping bag and talks about the different places that people might sleep. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, X the Owl can’t figure out how Prince Tuesday could have hurt himself doing the exercises he taught him. Lady Aberlin shows up and tells Mr. Aber that Lady Elaine is giving out magic hats so that people can fly. At the Museum-Go-Round, Ana Platypus is standing on top of it with a magic hat on. Mr. Aber and Lady Aberlin tell Ana not to jump. Ana Platypus comes down and Lady Elaine apologizes because she really thought it would work. Back at the house, Mister Rogers talks about how adults want their children to be safe. Mr. McFeely arrives with the video about people making sleeping bags. Afterwards, Mister Rogers visits the workshop of dollmaker, Ida Clowney. After he leaves, Mister Rogers talks about how each doll Ida makes is unique because they are handmade. All people are unique, too.
Mister Rogers enters the set carrying a hula-hoop. He explains that hula is a type of dance and that someone developed a hoop to put around someone when they did the hula. Mister Rogers goes to Paul Tifford’s studio to get a hula-hoop lesson and to watch him perform. Maggie Stewart shows up to get a lesson from Paul Tifford. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, King Friday announces that all flying lessons are to stop. Lady Elaine apologizes to Prince Tuesday for making him think the propeller hat she gave him would make him fly. Prince Tuesday suggests that Lady Elaine teach hula hoop lessons instead. Inside the tree, Lady Aberlin and Prince Tuesday talk with X the Owl who is still feeling responsible for the Prince’s accident. Prince Tuesday explains that X’s instruction to be careful could have prevented his fall. X feels much better knowing that he was a good teacher. Outside, Lady Elaine gives Mayor Maggie her first hula-hoop lesson. Back at the house, Mister Rogers spends some time thinking about children who are just learning to walk. He concludes by talking about practicing skills in order to get better.
