Mister Rogers talks about the differences and likenesses between Hischer Booptruck, a ventriloquist’s dummy, and himself. Maggie Stewart sings and signs “Then Your Heart is Full of Love.” In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, the king is playing his bass fiddle and talks to Darrell the Butterfly. Mr. Aber informs the king that Mayor Maggie would like to trade places with Queen Sara for just one day. The king approves and Queen Sara agrees to the change, provided that all the neighbors approve it as well. Darrell the Butterfly is looking for Nancy Caterpillar, who wants to be a butterfly. Lady Elaine is wearing a bird mask, and the king expresses a desire to fly. Mister Rogers goes to a car show and learns about the differences between Chuck Aber’s red Corvette convertible and another old car. He comments that seeing something many times and noting new things each time is a good way to learn.
Mister Rogers reads a French version of Eric Hill’s “Where’s Spot?” He then thinks about the time he drove an old car. Mr. McFeely brings a video about children’s television programs from around the world. Later, Mister Rogers talks about the differences between men and women. Queen Sara Saturday and Mayor Maggie prepare for their job switch; Maggie will be queen and Sara will be mayor. Nancy Caterpillar is anxious to transition into being a butterfly.
Mister Rogers discusses the differences between Rose, a Springer Spaniel, and Bob Trow in his Bob Dog costume. Mister Rogers says people never change into animals, nor animals into people. He sings “You Are Special.” Mr. McFeely brings over two different dogs: Mugsy, a male terrier, and Molly, a female beagle. He and Mister Rogers talk about how the two dogs are similar and different.In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, while delivering the crown for Mayor Maggie to the castle, Mr. Aber tells Prince Tuesday that his mother and Mayor Maggie plan to trade jobs. The Prince is upset as he leaves for school. Mr. Aber and Bob Dog play a game of hide-and-seek with the crown. At the school, Nancy Caterpillar shows a film about how caterpillars become butterflies. Daniel is apprehensive about what he will turn into but Miss Cow assures him that he will grow into a bigger tiger, not a butterfly. The prince is angry that his mother is turning into the Mayor without his having been asked. Mr. Aber visits the school and tells the prince that the switch will only be for one day. The prince is much relieved. Mr. Aber sings a song for them about expressing our true feelings. At the castle, Queen Sara asks Miss Paulificate to call the school so that she can talk to Prince Tuesday about the plans.
Mister Rogers talks about how people are the same even when they are wearing masks or costumes. He shows pictures of two clowns, then goes to Brockett’s Bakery and watches Chef Brockett and Jeff Gabel make strudel. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, as Queen Sara leaves for Westwood to be mayor for a day, King Friday announces that two clowns will be visiting the neighborhood for the day. The king admits to Prince Tuesday that he is jealous of the queen because she looks different and will be doing important work. In Westwood, as Mayor Sara is giving a radio speech on the League of Neighborhoods, she is interrupted by two clowns looking for the Neighborhood of Make-Believe. She invites them to sing on the radio, then decides that she wants to be mayor for only half a day. Queen Maggie agrees that half a day is enough for her as well. Mister Rogers talks about being happy in one’s own job and liking oneself. Mr. McFeely and Mister Rogers compare two different strudels.
Jeff Gabel visits with a cage full of baby chicks and says that they are called peeps. Mister Rogers observes how each one looks different.In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Chuckles the Clown magically dresses Lady Aberlin in a chicken costume. When she clucks loudly in front of Daniel’s clock, he thinks she is the world’s biggest chicken. At first he is startled but then relieved to discover that it is really his friend Lady Aberlin in the costume. Chuckles persuades Nancy Caterpillar that she is fine just as she is. Then Nancy turns into a butterfly and flys away with Darrell. Mister Rogers goes to the circus with Betty Aberlin. They see elephants and tigers and visit with Chuckles inside a tent that is called Clown Alley. Inside the big tent they watch elephants, trapeze artists, acrobats, and clowns. Mister Rogers decides he wants to go home before the circus is over. Outside he says it is alright for children to leave something when they are tired or frightened. He also says that human beings don’t fly except in airplanes, but they do grow up to stand and walk on their own feet and learn to love others. At home he sits at his piano and talks about why it is good that each key has a different tone, even though some are always black and others are always white.
