Mister Rogers plays a matching game, fitting pictures of the neighbors into frames of various sizes and shapes. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Joe Negri tells X, Henrietta, and Lady Elaine to come to the castle to receive a present from the king and queen for each of them. The present is a moving frame that will give a ride to whomever holds onto it. Lady Elaine wants to keep it to herself. Handyman Negri explains she must take turns. Henrietta is frightened at first, but overcomes her fear. The frame in Handyman Negri’s size doesn’t move by itself–he must move it. Lady Elaine suggests planning a carnival for Friday. Back with Mister Rogers, he shows a film of himself as a baby and young child.
Mister Rogers builds a balance scale from wood. He compares the weights of different vegetables as well as of members of a doll family. Mr. McFeely brings him a balance toy. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, the neighbors are preparing for the carnival. Mr. McFeely delivers a tiger mask to Daniel and some cards to X the Owl. X, dressed as Benjamin Franklin, is going to print cards at the carnival. Lady Aberlin demonstrates how she will be a tight-rope walker. Henrietta is going to be a balloon lady. Daniel frightens himself when he wears his tiger mask and looks in a mirror. He is able to try wearing the mask again when Lady Aberlin is with him. Back with Mister Rogers, he talks about children doing frightening things at first with someone they trust.
Chef Brockett shows Mister Rogers how to make cotton candy. He is taking it to the Neighborhood of Make-Believe for the carnival. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Queen Sara, Edgar Cooke, and Robert Troll plan to make caramel apples for the carnival. Chef Brockett tries to give King Friday some cotton candy, but the king insists he first make an appointment. Chef Brockett explains what cotton candy and carnivals are to the king. The king says he is not interested; he has more important matters to attend to. Lady Elaine, dressed as a fortune teller, has a crystal ball. X gets stuck to a caramel apple; Robert Troll pulls him free. Back with Mister Rogers, he talks about making up nonsense language like Robert Troll uses. Mister Rogers says to be sure to be understood it is necessary to speak in words people understand. Grandpere’s French is different from troll talk.
Mister Rogers puts on a parade coat. He has an antique music box that works when a crank is turned. Bill Becze, from the Westwood Zoo, brings a groundhog for Mister Rogers to see. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, preparations for the carnival continue. A juggler and a magician practice their acts. Mime Walker and Lady Aberlin rehearse the tight-rope-walk pantomime. Lady Aberlin acts frightened at first, but he reassures her. Edgar Cooke summons Lady Aberlin for King Friday. He does not want the carnival to be held in the castle. He had not been asked for permission. Everyone is disappointed. They decide to offer King Friday an important place in the parade. When he learns he will be first in the parade with Queen Sara, he changes his mind and gives permission for the carnival tomorrow.
It’s carnival day in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe. Mister Rogers blows up balloons and then fills others with helium. He gives these to Officer Clemmons to take to Henrietta in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe.In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Lady Aberlin sells admission to the carnival for three claps. Henrietta Pussycat has sold all of her helium balloons. Officer Clemmons brings her more. Robert Troll is frightened by Daniel’s fierce tiger act until he sees that Daniel is behind the mask. Henrietta weeps because some of her balloons have floated off. She is very tired from her day at the carnival. Lady Aberlin and Officer Clemmons take her home. Back with Mister Rogers, he says that when events like carnivals make a person very tired, it’s time to go home.
