Mister Rogers frosts Chef Brockett’s birthday cake. Lady Aberlin comes by looking for Chef Brockett. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, the neighbors give Chef Brockett their gifts for his birthday. The king has a special gift planned in the AO room of the castle. The king gives Chef Brockett the Atlantic Ocean for one year. The queen wishes him good health for the coming year. Mister Rogers gives Chef Brockett the cake and the cookbook.
Mister Rogers unties the strings on the two packages Chef Brockett has given him. One package contains a puzzle and the other its pieces. Put together, the puzzle is a thank-you for the gifts Mister Rogers gave Chef Brockett for his birthday. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Lady Elaine and Handyman Negri talk about the scout jamboree that she’s going to. He wishes he could, too, but assumes King Friday won’t let him. King Friday quizzes him on knot-tying and then gives him permission to go. However, Handyman Negri must first find someone to be handyman for the week. The substitute must be an opera singer whose last name begins with an “R” and has seven letters. Lady Elaine and Handyman Negri figure out that Reardon fits these criteria. At that point Reardon enters the Neighborhood of Make-Believe. He agrees to be handyman around the castle for a week. Mister Rogers demonstrates tying some knots.
Mister Rogers experiments with magnets. Lady Aberlin hopes Reardon will make up an opera this week. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Daniel tells Reardon that he would like to be a teddy bear in an opera. Reardon wants to be the captain of a ship. Lady Aberlin wants to make the costumes and be the lady who takes care of the teddy bear. Dr. Bill will be a Scottish piper. They decide to tell King Friday about their plans for the opera. The king is trying to attract a star with a magnet. He will agree to their plans once he has a star. Lady Aberlin fastens one of her star hair ornaments to his magnet. The king approves the opera and wants the part of the star. Mister Rogers shows how music is written. Officer Clemmons tells Mister Rogers that he is going to ask Reardon if he can be in the opera, too.
Mister Rogers plays with a toy boat. Trolley shows how it will be the waves for the opera. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Lady Aberlin gives Trolley its costume. Corney thinks he sees waves; he hadn’t heard about the opera. He’d like to be in it. Grandpere gives Reardon a boat in return for a song. Because there are twelve people in the opera, they will need a lot of room for the production. They decide to use the whole neighborhood. Grandpere is handling decorations.
Today is opera day. Mister Rogers brings a teddy bear with him. The trolley delivers an invitation to Mister Rogers for the opera.In the opera, the teddy bear is lost. His caretaker and the policeman look for him. His caretaker decides that the teddy bear has gone to sea. She asks the captain if she can sail with him to look for the teddy bear. They sail to various ports looking for the bear. They sight a whale that swims away. Mrs. Franklin shows them her teddy bear and suggests they go to Scotland. They see the whale there who has been frightened by the Loch Ness Monster. Nessie says she is harmless and invites the whale to play while the piper pipes. The policeman sees the teddy bear at home holding a “found” sign. He had been under the couch taking a nap. The captain declares his love to the caretaker.
