Mister Rogers takes a stuffed bear out of a suitcase and talks about how a heart symbolizes love. He takes a bear costume out of the suitcase and tries it on. Mr. McFeely tries on the costume bear head. They watch a video, “How People Make Stuffed Bears.” Mister Rogers says that it is the insides of people that matter and not the ouside. He sings “It’s You I Like.” In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Lady Aberlin tells Queen Sara that she is planning something fun. King Friday and Queen Sara talk about how they spend their time. Mr. McFeely delivers a suitcase filled with hearts to Lady Elaine. Someone dressed in a bear costume keeps everyone wondering about his or her identity. The bear visits X, Henrietta, and Daniel. Daniel figures out that the bear is Lady Aberlin from the nice way she talks. She sings “I Like Someone Who Looks Like You” to him. King Friday complains that Queen Sara and Lady Aberlin are spending their time on other activities than work.
Mister Rogers talks about his friend, David Ford, who is an ornithologist. He pastes David’s picture into his photo album and shows other pictures of his friends while he sings “You Are Special.” He goes to the aviary to visit David who is taking a census of the birds who live there. They discuss special features of different birds, such as a Mandarin Duck and a Crown Pidgeon, then feed some of them. Mister Rogers says a soap opera is a kind of play, and that people often have very good ideas about the things they love. He feeds the fish, says it is important to take care of things like fish and birds that need your care, and sings “I’m Taking Care of You.” He says letting people take care of you is another way of showing love. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, King Friday is trying to get his birds to perform a special dance and scolds them for not trying hard enough. Queen Sara and Mayor Maggie tell the birds that they are talented, and they perform very well. Maggie takes Mimus to visit Lady Elaine who shows them pictures of things she loves, like veggie burgers, little boys and girls, and picnics. Included are several pictures of herself in different costumes and poses. They talk about producing a soap opera and Lady Elaine’s desire to be a heart-throb. Robert Troll is bird watching and says he would like to be an usher. Robert talks to X, who is holding an orange, a favorite food of his. Robert calls for Troglodytes Aedon at the castle, but King Friday appears and complains that everyone is playing rather than doing serious work of state.
Mister Rogers takes off his shoes and socks. He says he has been walking alot lately and goes outside to soak his feet in a pool of water. As he reflects we see a people of all ages working, playing, and spending time together. Francois Clemmons stops by, soaks his feet awhile, and sings “There are Many Ways.” Mister Rogers says he remembers how his grandfather used to let him play in a small pool and the good times they had together. Mister Rogers shows a pop-up picture book, “A is for Animals,” with illustrations of different animals for each letter. He shows letters A to N and explains that when letters are put together they form words with which we can express the way we feel. Francois Clemmons sings a song with much energy. Mister Rogers tells Francois how proud he is of him and says that it is what’s inside of him that makes him sing so well. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Prince Tuesday wants to go for a walk with his father, but King Friday says he must work instead. Mr. McFeely says King Friday seems like an all work and no play king, and asks Tuesday to help him with a delivery to the Museum. Mayor Maggie asks Tuesday to be in the soap opera but he doesn’t think that King Friday would let him. Lady Elaine says King Friday is an old stick in the mud and tells Tuesday that she is proud of him for helping Mr. McFeely with the delivery of soap for the soap opera. The King is still too upset to hear about Tuesday’s helpfulness and argues with Queen Sara in front of Tuesday, making them both angry. Lady Aberlin overhears. She sings about how the people you like the most can make you feel maddest.
Mister Rogers says that Joe Negri has invited us over to meet a mandolin player. He uses a wooden block to pretend he is shaving in the bathroom mirror. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, King Friday plays his bass violin for Queen Sara and Lady Aberlin. When he and Queen Sara kiss affectionately, Lady Aberlin becomes confused and thoughtful. She asks X the Owl what love is. He consults his favorite book, “Benjamin Franklin Speaks,” which only says that love is good and wonderful. She asks Robert Troll the same question and he thinks of some examples, but none are completely satisfactory. Lady Elaine comments that you cannot love anybody else until you love yourself. At Lady Elaine’s suggestion, Lady Aberlin talks to Queen Sara who explains that, although Friday made her angry, she still loves him. Mister Rogers visits Negri’s Music Shop to hear Peter Ostroushko play his mandolin. Peter plays and sings a Ukranian lullaby and explains that his last name means “sharp ears.” He talks about how he learned music from his mother who liked to sing, and his father and other relatives who enjoyed playing the mandolin and other instruments. Joe and Peter play a duet version of “Tree, Tree, Tree” after Peter teaches Mister Rogers how to pronounce the Ukranian word for tree. Peter shows pictures of his baby daughter, whom he loves and plays the mandolin for. Mister Rogers says that love seems to be something that fills us up from the inside and the more we give away, the more we have to give.
Mister Rogers talks about blowing bubbles as he blows different sizes. After his hands get sticky from the bubble juice, he goes to the sink to wash his hands and finds out that there is no water. He calls the plumbing service and is told that they will check out the problem. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, preparations are being made for the one-act soap opera at Lady Elaine’s museum called “As the Museum Turns.” Chuck Aber and Mayor Maggie show Robert Troll the automatic bubble maker. Queen Sara, King Friday, Prince Tuesday, Troglodytes, and Miss Paulificatte arrive to watch the play. Mimus Polyglottos is dressed up to play MP, the Police Bird who is guarding the world’s soap supply. Lady Elaine is dressed to star as the hearthrob but has stagefright and forgets her lines. Robert consoles her with his care and concern. Mayor Maggie says that soap operas have many surprises. Tuesday tells Lady Elaine that he is proud of her and the king announces that he loves everyone there, and hopes they can love him even when he makes mistakes. Mister Rogers visits Teodora Schipper who shows him how to make spinach eggrolls. She gives him some to share with his family. The plumber, Sheila McKenna, knocks to tell Mister Rogers the water pipes have been fixed. He sings “There are Many Ways” and says how hard it is to love someone who has been mean to you, and especially when that person is yourself. He says it is important to love our neighbor which can be anyone we meet.
